Scottsdale bathrooms range from 1960s hall baths with original tile to large 2000s primary suites with garden tubs nobody uses, travertine everywhere and dated fixtures. Both are good candidates for a full bathroom remodel.
Popular projects include converting a garden tub into a large walk-in shower, replacing travertine with porcelain tile that’s easier to keep clean, and adding a double vanity with better lighting and storage.
Local know-how
Turning the oversized tub deck of a 2000s primary bath into a roomy, curbless or low-curb shower.
Travertine etches and stains easily. Porcelain tile gives a similar look with far less upkeep.
Gutting original 60s bathrooms down to the studs for new plumbing, tile, vanity and ventilation.
Planning
Primary bathrooms in many north Scottsdale homes were built around a large garden tub, a separate small shower and plenty of travertine. A common Scottsdale bathroom remodel combines the tub and shower area into one large walk-in shower with frameless glass, replaces travertine with large-format porcelain, and updates the vanity with quartz tops and modern lighting.
In older south Scottsdale homes, bathrooms are smaller and often original. A full gut remodel replaces worn plumbing, adds proper waterproofing and ventilation, and uses smart vanity sizing and glass to make a compact bath feel larger.
Frameless glass, large-format porcelain slabs, floating vanities and warm wood tones define many Scottsdale primary bathroom remodels. A curbless walk-in shower with a linear drain, a freestanding soaking tub where space allows and layered lighting at the vanity create the spa feel many homeowners are after.
Guest bathrooms and powder rooms are good places for bolder choices, like patterned tile, a statement vanity or textured wall tile, because they are small and seen by everyone who visits.
